Adverse reactions:

Atarax- Possible Side EffectsThe most common side effect of Atarax is drowsiness which is most often temporary and may go away in a few days or when the dosage is reduced. Other side effects are dry mouth, twitches, dizziness, headache, tremors and convulsions which usually occur with higher than recommended doses. Notify your physician or pharmacist right away if you experience any of theses side effects.

If you experience dry mouth while taking Atarax try sucking on sugarless hard candies or ice. You can also try chewing sugarless gum to alleviate dry mouth.

Many people who use Atarax do not have serious side effects. Your physician prescribed this medication for you because he or she weighed the benefit of taking the medication against the risk of possible side effects.

Tell your physician at once if any of the following rare but serious side effects occur: seizures or a pounding or irregular heartbeat.

Serious allergic reactions are very unlikely however, seek medical attention immediately if one occurs. A serious allergic reaction may result in: itching or swelling (in particular of the face, tongue or throat), rash, extreme dizziness, or trouble breathing.

Possible Drug Interactions:

Before taking Atarax let your physician and your pharmacist know about all of the prescription as well as non-prescription medications you are taking, including any medications that cause drowsiness. Check the labels on all products including over-the-counter products, for example, cold medicines, cough medicines, sleep aides and allergy products which may cause drowsiness.

Overdose:

Contact your local poison control center or emergency room facility if overdose is suspected. A symptom of overdose may be prolonged or severe drowsiness.

Storage:

Store the medication away from light, heat and moisture. Do not keep the medication in the bathroom. Do not freeze the syrup. Keep all medications away from children and pets.

Do not flush this medication down the toilet or pour it down a drain unless instructed to do so. When it is expired or is no longer required, discard the medication properly. You may contact your doctor or local waste disposal company to learn how to properly discard the medicine.
